Daisy’s Discoverers
– 2-4 years
Staff
ratio 1:8
Our playroom
provides a safe, secure and fun
environment for children to continue to
develop through all aspects of play.
Activities are provided where children
can build on those they experienced in
our 2-3 room, encounter new experiences
and learn to make choices for themselves
to become more independent in their
self-help skills, with praise and
encouragement from staff.
Our staff
team is made up of caring, friendly and
dedicated Early Years Practitioners and
Support Workers. They enjoy the
challenges of providing enriched, fun
learning experiences which aid
children’s development and learning
through adult interaction, support and
encouragement, enabling them to reach
their full potential.
With
support, children in Daisy’s Discoverers
begin learning to work independently,
access different areas within the room
and play in small and larger groups.
Resources
are selected to ensure children have a
continuity of experiences from their
time in our 2-3 room but also ensure new
challenges which are appropriate to help
provide progression in their learning.
We have a range of activities on offer
including art and crafts, play dough,
construction, small world, games and
puzzles, group activities and home
corner and role play which provide a
flavour of learning across the eight
curriculum areas identified in
"Curriculum for Excellence". These are Expressive
arts, Health and wellbeing, Languages,
Mathematics, Religious and moral
education, Sciences, Social studies and
Technologies.
We value an
active approach to learning. Our daily
routine provides opportunities for
learning which are promoted through a
balance of planned, purposeful and
spontaneous play. For more information
regarding our learning approaches please
read our policies on “Learning Together
in Dundee” and “Curriculum for
Excellence”.
Our play
room has direct access to a beautiful,
large enclosed garden. We have
excellent secure outdoor play facilities
including a large climbing frame and a
paved area for bikes and wheeled toys
which the children can enjoy on a daily
basis. We have open door procedures
which mean children can choose to access
the garden in all weathers if they have
suitable clothing which helps us to
promote health and wellbeing. The
children also enjoy regular walks in the
area and visits to the local park.
The nursery
promotes healthy eating as well as good
table manners and a variety of freshly
prepared meals and snacks are provided
each day by our own cook. In Daisy’s
Discoverers snacks are optional for
children and self-help skills are
encouraged with a self-service snack.
